The brewing tradition in Valdivia dates back to the 19th century with the arrival of the first German settlers in this city. In 1851, in the beautiful sector of Isla Teja, the German immigrant Carlos Anwandter founded the Anwandter Brewery, which originally was only to supply family consumption. His success was such that he had no choice but to increase production and expand his business to the delight of the Valdivians. Today, with more than 36 brands of beer brewed in the area, Valdivia is positioned as the national capital of craft beer. At different times of the year, festivals are held for lovers of brew like the Bierfest Kunstmann, the Black Beer Festival and the Craft Beer Festival.
